Enroll in this three-day training (two days if you've taken a CSM or similar class) for a refresher in Agile and Scrum, and to learn other Agile methods such as Lean and Kanban, and advanced concepts such as story mapping. During these three days, you’ll get prepared for Agile Certified Practitioner(PMI-ACP)®, and a whole lot more. You'll also get practical knowledge that you can take to your team and start applying right away.

PMI-ACP® is the newest certification from PMI that will allow you to demonstrate that you can select agile principles and practices as a project management approach based on the needs and demands of a specific project. (Reference: PMI-ACP® FAQ). This certification will help you validate your knowledge and experience in working with Agile principles and practices.

Don’t just learn it, experience it!

Most of this training program is structured as an experiential learning workshop, in which you'll learn from carefully designed activities, well-facilitated discussions, and some lecture. Unlike similar classes, the instructor will not present all of the material from the podium using Power Point slides. This class uses a variety of teaching techniques to keep everyone engaged.

This is not your typical exam prep boot camp that prepares you to just pass the exam. Yes, there will be practice exams and examination preparation but you will also become familiar with principles that can be used to make a difference in your organization.

If you have already Certified ScrumMaster Training or something similar, you can attend only the last two days of this class.

This PMI-ACP® training will provide a broad survey of Agile project management tools, techniques, skills, and knowledge areas. Within the three days, we’ll cover all 6 domains of the upcoming PMI-ACP® exam:

Day 1-Introduction to Agile & Scrum

Prerequisite: None

During day 1 of this class, you will get an introduction to Agile and Scrum. If you have not taken an Agile / Scrum fundamentals class like CSM or CSPO in the past, this will provide you a good introduction to the concepts. If you would like to brush up your Agile & Scrum knowledge, this will be a great class for you.

Introduction to Agile:

  • Why Agile?
  • History of Agile
  • Agile Manifesto

Introduction to Scrum:

  • Basics of Scrum framework
  • Roles in Scrum: This will include topics such as different roles as defined in Scrum, Team composition, and Self Organizing team
  • Artifacts in Scrum: This will include topics such as Product Backlog, and Sprint Backlog
  • Ceremonies in Scrum: This will include Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospectives
  • Definition of “Done”

Day 2  & 3 - PMI ACP® Examination Preparation

Prerequisite: Day 1 of this class or another fundamentals class such as CSM or CSPO.

Day 2 and Day 3 of this class assume that you have the fundamental knowledge of Agile & Scrum and possibly already practicing it.

Day 2:

  • Quick Review of Scrum fundamentals: This will provide a recap to the attendees who were introduced to Scrum on Day 1 and a quick refresher for the attendees who are joining the team on Day 2.
  • Initial Review of PMI-ACP exam topics: During this time, we will review the PMI-ACP exam at a high level and review topics covered in the exam.
  • Fundamentals of User Stories: During this section the class will learn about user stories and create user stories for a product. This will also include related topics such User Story Mapping, Personas, Agile Modeling, Wireframes, etc.
  • Fundamentals of Estimation: This session will explore different types of estimation. As an activity the class will estimate the user stories created in the previous section.
  • Prioritization techniques
  • Agile Planning: This will include topics such as Initiating Agile Projects, Chartering, and Five levels of Agile planning.
  • Burn-down / Burn-up charts & Cumulative Flow diagrams.
  • Fundamentals of Kanban: The class will go through a fun exercise to learn principles of Kanban. The class will map the process flow of the exercise on the board, explore techniques such as limiting work in progress, and value stream mapping.

Day 3:

  • eXtreme Programming: This will include the technical practices under XP, roles in XP, and other quality considerations.
  • Lean
  • Metrics and Measuring Progress: This will include topics such as Velocity, Cycle time, EVM, etc.
  • Risk management in Agile projects
  • Adaptive leadership & Coaching
  • PMI code of Ethics & Agile
  • PMI-ACP Practice exam
  • Final Review of PMI-ACP® exam topics:  More than half of the day will be spent on bringing all the learning we had in the prior two days and reviewing all the topics covered under the PMI-ACP examination. Going over every topic covered in the exam, the attendees will get comfortable with all the topics and create a plan for their further learning. We will also discuss tips and techniques in the exam. During this time, we will also do a practice test.
