Topic:

Decision-making lies at the heart of agile portfolio management: decisions about what we outcomes want and need to achieve, which ideas and opportunities to explore, which value increments to select and move into the portfolio backlog, when to start the work. These decisions are complex and can involve intense discussions and strong feelings, which can often lead to interpersonal conflict. The practice of making things visible helps externalize problems, solutions and decisions, meaning people can shift from a face-to-face stance, which is often adversarial, to a shoulder-to-shoulder stance, which helps people work together. Drawing on theory, observations, and practice, I’ll share examples and visual techniques you can use to encourage shoulder-to-shoulder decision-making within your teams and organization.

Sarah has deep experience as practitioner and consultant in the public, private and non-profit sectors, helping software and non-software teams and organizations transform from the inside out. When coaching individuals, teams, and portfolio leaders, her passion is helping people clearly see their current reality and design their future.
