A discussion that comes up perennially on the Agile user groups is one that pits the ‘Project manager’ versus the ‘ScrumMaster’ or the ‘Agile Project Manager.’ To my mind, it’s more about the work of leadership and management than it is about a role — call it what you may.

Perhaps, the discussion would be enhanced if we were to speak about the leadership work of a project manager/scrummaster/agile project manager. Here’s a link to a whitepaper on Agile Project Management on the subject that I co-authored in 2003 when I was with my previous employer. It still seems to be popular 4 years later. I renamed some of the practices, and the material here formed the basis for my book, Managing Agile Projects, published in 2005. Hope you enjoy it.
