Agile methods are now mainstream in IT. After nearly two decades of widespread adoption, things are really getting exciting!

In the early days, we were happy just to get a few agile teams going in the face of organizational cultures steeped in the Waterfall methods.  Scrum took off, and many, many organization got their agile team going.  Agile teams delivered faster, with better value and higher customer satisfaction.  Some teams wisely implemented hybrids, with eXtreme Programming (XP) and Scrum.  Then, Kanban came along, and Agile methods spread to every nook-and-cranny in the world.

A few years ago, with the advent of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Disciplined Agile Delivery (DAD), Large Scale Scrum (LeSS) and Nexus, we have seen organizations aggregate their team delivery into programs and portfolios.  Industry leaders such as Sales Force, Walmart, Capital One have been able to accrue the benefits that have come with scaling agile methods up.  We have also seen the rise of agile-savvy leaders in these organizations, and many of them are now in the ‘C’ suite.   Executives like Mark Schwatrz, CIO at the U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services have been transforming their organizations using agile methods in conjunction with DevOps to deliver solutions faster and more reliably to their customers.

Now, things have gotten exciting because these leaders have been exploring how to leverage their agile delivery capability built up over years, and parlay it into something much, much more powerful.  Specifically, these leaders have been creating organizational agility built on the foundation of their agile teams, program and portfolios.

In particular, creating resilience and driving innovation has been a focus.  Industry leaders like Intuit and Pivotal, and government leaders like the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) are stepping up to this challenge.  At the 2016 Agile Executive Forum(AEF), come join a select group of executives and top Agile leaders to explore how your organization can anticipate, prepare for, and respond and adapt to incremental change and sudden disruptions.  Learn how leading organizations not only survive, but thrive and prosper amidst extreme turbulence.
